This week, we are featuring a veteran we met the first day we photographed at the American Legion Convention this year. Mark Ochsenbein is an Army veteran who served a little over twenty years in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He has been awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with silver, bronze oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with “V” device, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Master Aviator Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Special Forces Tab, Honduras Jump Wings, Thailand Jump Wings, and Thailand Balloon Jump Wings.
Ochsenbein is a part of Soldier’s Wish, a non-profit organization which identifies “unmet needs of veterans of military service regardless of branch or rank and identify or provide resources to meet those needs by providing needed support directly to the veteran service members and/or their families in order that such service members can lead normal and productive lives.” They have helped veterans and their families with gifting them to help get their vehicle in working order to trips they have been wanting all because they sacrificed and served for our country. Find out how you can donate to their organization by visiting the link above.
Stay tuned next week when we feature our first female veteran at the Veterans Portrait Project Blog!
